bar’s poorly poured Guinness sparks furor
The Railtown Cafe, a Vancouver eatery best known locally for their tasty sandwiches, has achieved international fame for pouring the ugliest pint of Guinness.
The online St. Patrick’s Day promotion photo, which featured the back stuff’s fabled foam dribbling over the lip and drooping down the side of the pint, caused immediate and furious backlash from Guinness connoisseurs and nearly every media outlet in Ireland.
The Irish Independent called the pour “sacrilegious,” while the Irish Mirror said the photo of the “ghastly” pint “caused Irish people everywhere to grimace in disgust.”
Credit the Railtown Cafe (397 Railway Street) for turning a negative into a positive.
After enduring an avalanche of online abuse, the cafe posted a photo of a much improved pour and may have won the Emerald Isle folk back with an offer they can’t refuse a complimentary Guinness pint and shot of Jameson Whiskey on St. Paddy’s Day. In true Canadian fashion, we’d like to apologize, so we inviting anyone of age with a valid Irish passport to join us this Friday, St. Patrick Day, for a perfectly poured Guinness and a shot of Jameson,” Railtown Cafe posted on its Facebook.
The restaurant’s mea culpa and generous offer had Irish eyes smiling again.
“Well played. Ireland forgives you Just don’t let it happen again lads! ,” read one Facebook response from Grainne Kelly.
“Nicely referenced St Patricks Day too, well played lads! That pint certainly looks a lot better. Hopefully the locals will sink a few on Friday. Enjoy Beannachta na F P oraibh!,” said Damien Conbhu mother of god NEVER do that again . mortal sin . you had a whole nation against you . the black stuff is like holy water . and it should never be drank with until it settles .
